Define each process, policy, process and routine and the business becomes a system. This creates a structure which is used by franchisees to run the business. The franchise operations manual contains the ingredients for each company’s “secret sauce.” It is a core component to keep people accountable because it gives the corporate office the legal muscle to uphold their brand standards. In a franchise, it’s the brand, and what it stands for which is important. The knowledge within the operations manual—the sum of the franchisor’s expertise—supports the community by giving everyone clarity of expectations. In short, the ops manual is the play book, defining the standards and field upon which everyone participates. The better the manual defines the system, the stronger the franchisor. Be strong.
